When I think about 80's rock, the first thing that comes to mind is GLAM. You know, androgynous skinny dudes wearing tight leather chaps and more makeup & Aqua-net than your grandma. Sure, a lot of great music came out of it, but its hard not to chuckle. The Cult is one of the few groups from this period that embraced this style and gave it their own taste.
I first started listening to The Cult when I was in College. I don't know why but I really got into the whole sappy 80's rock love songs that seemed formulaic at best. Upon first listen it was clear that The Cult was not just your typical rock band. If Zeppelin and Doors had a love child, they would be it.
I will now narrate to you, my fine reader and music connoisseur, what it will feel like when you first hear some of the best music ever recorded. The first thing that will catch your attention is Ian Astbury's voice. You will say " this voice IS rock n roll". Once you assimilate the awesomeness of it, you start to listen to the music and discover that classic rock is not dead. You will be so inspired that you will decide to stay up til 5am, on a Thursday searching Ebay for used bass guitars. Ummm wait, maybe not, but still life will be better now that you know that this kick ass music exists.
Enjoy this essential 5 after the jump, it just might change ur life :)
